Walter J. Duffy, MD

Dr. Duffy is the President/Owner/Founder of Premier Psychiatric Group, LLC (PPG) and Premier Psychiatric Research Institute, LLC (PPRI), and Premier Psych TMS.  He is Board Certified in Child/Adolescent and Adult Psychiatry.  He graduated from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, TN and then completed his residency training at Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center  (DDEAM) in Georgia and his Child Fellowship in a combined program with DDEAM and the University of Georgia. Originally from Shenandoah, IA,  Dr. Duffy and his wife have been married for 30 years and have three sons and two daughters-in-law.

Dr. Duffy performs diagnostic evaluations and provides medication management.  He is committed to bringing patients the best, most up-to-date and comprehensive services available.  In 2011 he began offering Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation for treatment-resistant major depressive disorder (TR-MDD) and other illnesses. TMS is a non-invasive, FDA-approved treatment procedure for TR-MDD.  Dr. Duffy and PPG have quickly become national leaders in this treatment having already treated more than 600 patients while performing more than 10,000 treatment sessions with close to 75% of patients having successful outcomes. (Read more under the "TMS" tab on the Home page.)  Also offered now at PPG is Pharmacogenetics, the testing of a patient’s DNA to help find the most effective medication.  This new test involves nothing more than using a q-tip to take a swab of the inside of the patient’s cheek.  (Read more about Pharmacogenetics under the "Services" tab on the Home page.) Dr. Duffy's clinical interests include the majority of diagnoses across the child, adolescent and adult spectrum of disorders. He has extensive experience with ADHD; Asperger's, Autism and other pervasive developmental disorders; behavioral problems; Depression; Bipolar disorder; OCD, PTSD and other anxiety disorders; Eating disorders; Traumatic brain injury, Sleep problems; Tourette's and other tic disorders; Alzheimer's; Schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders; Alcohol abuse; Substance abuse; and others.  Dr. Duffy especially enjoys challenges in regard to correct diagnosing and medication management. Dr. Duffy currently sits on the Scientific Advisory Board for Addiction of Rivermend Health. Members of the board include many of the world's preeminent experts in the field of addiction, behavioral health, psychiatry and psychology.

Dr. Duffy also enjoys clinical research and thus established PPRI in 2003, again making available to patients the fullest range of treatments. His institute has completed numerous stage 2, 3 and 4 pharmaceutical studies involving children, adolescents and adults. PPRI works with central IRBs and has been sought out for the excellent enrollment and cleanliness of data it delivers.  Dr. Duffy’s interest in research began during residency when he was awarded the Lilly Research Award in Psychiatry. Dr. Duffy engages in forensic work as well as consultation work with a number of companies. Dr. Duffy and PPG excel in partnering to determinine if services/products are ready for patient use and then making sure they are made accessible to patients. Annette Marget, APRN

Annette performs diagnostic evaluations and provides medication management. She is a Board Certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner and Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioner who has worked in the area of mental illness and substance abuse since 2001. A Nurse Practitioner is a Registered Nurse who also has a Masters Degree. They have extensive psychiatric and pharmacological education.  Nurse Practitioners are considered mid-level, independent practitioners in the State of Nebraska.  They prescribe medicine and work collaboratively with physicians.  Annette specializes in working with adults and children who have chronic mental illness, substance abuse problems, geriatric issues, post traumatic stress disorders, and developmental disabilities.  Annette graduated from the University of Nebraska Medical Center.

A Nebraska native, she is married to Jim Marget and they have three daughters, two sons-in-law and several grandchildren.  Annette enjoys spending time with her children and grandchildren, traveling with her husband, gardening and playing with her dogs. Annette is also an online instructor for the University of Phoenix and is a member in the Nebraska Nurse Practitioners organization.

Nick Guenzel, DNP-APRN

Dr. Guenzel performs diagnostic evaluations and provides medication management.  He obtained a Masters degree in psychiatric nursing from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in 2010 and a PhD in nursing from the same university in 2015. He has presented at a number of regional and national conferences.  Dr. Guenzel received a Bachelor of Science degree in the Accelerated Nursing Program at Virginia Commonwealth University where he graduated Cum Laude in December 2007.  Nurse Practitioners are considered mid-level, independent practitioners in the State of Nebraska and have extensive psychiatric and pharmacological education. They prescribe medication and work collaboratively with physicians.  He worked for three years as a nurse in inpatient psychiatry and also has a Bachelors degree in psychology.  Dr. Guenzel recently accepted a UNMC faculty position.  He is seeing patients one day a week at the Lincoln office.

Outside of work Dr. Guenzel enjoys spending time with his wife and their triplets.

Meredith Griffin, PsyD

Dr. Griffin conducts a variety of psychological assessments for children, adolescents, and adults. Additionally, she provides individual and couples' therapy.  Dr. Griffin graduated from Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida with a Doctoral Degree and Master of Science in Clinical Psychology.  She completed her Bachelor of Arts in General Psychology at Montclair State University in Upper Montclair, New Jersey.  She has training and experience assessing and treating trauma/abuse survivors, individuals diagnosed with severe/persistent mental illness, individuals diagnosed with personality disorders, and individuals dually-diagnosed with mental illness and Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities (I/DD).  Dr. Griffin was previously employed with OMNI Behavioral Health as a Clinical Supervisor and Licensed Psychologist for Intensive Treatment Mobility Services (ITMS) – Greater Nebraska and Extended Family Homes (EFH) – Greater Nebraska. She was employed with the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (NDHHS) – Division of Developmental Disabilities as a Licensed Psychologist.  She has been a speaker on numerous occasions regarding Autism Spectrum Disorders, dual-diagnosis of MI and I/DD, Empirically-Supported Treatments, and Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA).

 In her free time Dr. Griffin enjoys cooking and trying new restaurants, watching movies and TV, going to live music events, and spending time with friends and family.

Cole Stark, MA, LIMHP

Cole is a Licensed Independent Mental Health Practitioner (LIMHP) with experience working with individuals of all ages in individual, family, couples, and group therapy.  Prior to joining Premier Psychiatric, he worked in several different settings including an outpatient clinic, residential group home, inpatient hospitalization, as well as a partial-hospitalization unit spending a great deal of time working with children, adolescents, and their families.  Cole was born and raised in the Lincoln area.  He completed his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and his Masters of Arts in Counseling from Doane College.  His therapeutic approaches are primarily person-centered, cognitive-behavioral, and solution-focused. 

When not working, Cole enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter, being an avid outdoorsman, and taking in various concert and sporting events.

Heather Nielsen, APRN

Heather worked in Mental Health for six years as an RN.  She then earned her bachelor of science in nursing at Union College and attended the University of Nebraska Medical Center for her APRN with a specialty in psychiatric/mental health nursing.   A Nurse Practitioner is a Registered Nurse who also has a Masters Degree.  They have extensive medical and pharmacological education.  Nurse Practitioners are considered mid-level, independent practitioners in the State of Nebraska.  They prescribe medicine and work collaboratively with physicians.  She has worked with patients of all ages and diagnoses over the years.  Holistic health care is important to her so she encourages patients to address symptoms through lifestyle modifications and self-awareness as well as medication management.  

She has lived in Lincoln for ten years and enjoys spending time with her husband and their very spoiled dog.

Jason Howe, PA-C

Jason Howe, PA-C joined Premier Psychiatric in March 2016. Jason earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Pre-Med from the University of NE Lincoln in 2001.  Jason earned his Masters Degree of Physician Assistant Studies from Union College in 2012.

A Physician Assistant is a mid-level medical practitioner who can prescribe medication and works under the supervision of a licensed physician (an MD).

Jason aims to actively contribute to his patients' well-being through total patient care using excellent patient rapport, and thorough attention to detail with the utmost integrity. 

Tawni Howard, APRN

Tawni Howard is a Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioner.  She earned her RN Diploma from Bryan Hospital School of Nursing in 1993, her Bachelors Degree in Nursing from Bryan College of Health Sciences in 2012, and her Masters Degree in Nursing from Walden University in 2015.  A Nurse Practitioner is a Registered Nurse who also has a Masters Degree.  They have extensive medical and pharmacological education.  Nurse Practitioners are considered mid-level, independent practitioners in the State of Nebraska.  They prescribe medicine and work collaboratively with physicians.  Tawni enjoys seeing patients of all ages and believes in treating the patient as a whole meeting their medical and behavioral health needs.  She is a member of the Nebraska Nurse Practitioners Association, American Nurses Association, and the American Psychiatric Nurses Association.

She has two children and in her spare time she enjoys attending her kids' sporting events, vacationing in Colorado, and being outdoors.

Kayla Fink, PA-C

Kayla Fink, PA-C joined PPG in January of 2015. Kayla earned her bachelor's degree in Biology and Psychology from UNL and received her master of Physician Studies degree from UNMC.

A Physician Assistant is a mid-level medical practitioner who can prescribe medication and works under the supervision of a licensed physician (an MD).

She enjoys traveling, being outdoors, and spending time with family and friends.

Megan Basnett, PsyD

Dr. Basnett provides mental health services for all ages, with specialized training in child and adolescent psychology.  She graduated from Forest Institute in Springfield, Missouri with a Doctorate of Psychology and a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology.  She completed her Bachelor of Science in  Psychology and Business Administration at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.  Dr. Basnett has provided services in community mental health centers, private practice, a university diagnostic center, and school settings.  She has experience conducting psychological, psychoeducational, parenting fitness, and court-ordered evaluations. Dr. Basnett provides treatment of mood disorders, anxiety disorders, disruptive behavior disorders, and impulse control disorders.  She uses evidenced-based treatments, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).  

In her free time, Dr. Basnett enjoys spending time with family, reading, and attending local performing arts and sporting events.

 

 

Kelli Thompson, LICSW

Kelli graduated from UNL with a BA in Psychology, then UNO with a Masters in Social Work.  She has significant experience working with Severe and Persistent Mental Illness and working with adolescents.  In therapy, she takes a person-centered approach and uses techniques from CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing, and Solution-Focused Therapy. 

In her spare time Kelli enjoys spending time with her two sons, reading, going to the gym, and dreaming about traveling.
